Formerly of St John I left Maker Rd, Torpoint in 1973 and now live in Auckland NZ for the past 38 Years. Last year had my first trip back to Torpoint staying at Roselare Ave and enjoyed it immensely meeting family and acquaintances. Found Torpoint has expanded a bit and enjoyed a few Cornish Pasties. Hopefully a return visit well before the next 38 years in the meantime will be keeping an eye on you.

Ref. letter from M.Deroo:While I was mayor of Torpoint 1991-92 I was contacted by a Mr Roeslare who was quite irritated by an assertion that an alternative crossing of the Tamar had never been seriously considered. He said that he had submitted plans for a crossing from Thankes area to North Corner in the 1920s. He was evidently responsible for the plans for HMS Raleigh which opened in 1939.
Could it be that Roeselare Ave. was named in recognition of his efforts?

I was born in Torpoint in 1947 and lived there until my marriage in 1971 when I moved to Plymouth. In 1974 we emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. I often check up on Torpoint via Google and hope to visit again one day.

I have connections with Torpoint through my paternal grandmother. I remember visiting Torpoint manual telephone exchange in great aunt(?) Miss Chadwick's house in Wellington Street in the 1950's.

I lived in Torpoint 46/47 when I was 7-8 years old, and jotted some memories on Google docs. Please email me if you would like to get the link.
