In July 2011, a “leaked” MoD circular again raised fears about the future of HMS Raleigh. Further reassurance was sought by Sheryll Murray MP, from the Secretary of State for Defence, Dr Liam Fox MP. The following reply was received: view PDF

Mayoral Allowance 2010-2011

As a gesture of openness, I have decided to publish the accounts of my Mayoral Allowance for the Civic Year 2010-2011 (follow link). Every Mayor is granted an allowance to cover the necessary costs of performing the role; currently, the allowance is set at £2,600. As you will see, my allowance has been managed prudently and used for:

The prudent management of the allowance resulted in a surplus of some £520, £500 of which I have donated to the Torpoint Events Company to help with the cost of Christmas trees and other items associated with the Christmas Lights. The remaining £20 will be carried over to the 2011-2012 account.

Hire Of The Council Chambers

The Mayors Parlour, the Committee Room and Main Hall, with use of the kitchen or bar, are available for hire by Individuals, organisations and businesses. For booking information and rates of hire contact click here or visit the Council Chambers between 8am-12noon.

The Mayors Parlour

A comfortable room that can seat up to 12 people. It can be laid out to suit your requirements. It can used for formal board room style meetings, training sessions, meetings of up to 12 people seated in rows, or completely informal for small parties and other functions.
 The Mayors Parlour is in a self-contained area with its own entrance, foyer, toilets and access to the kitchen.

The room can be accessed by the disabled lift.

The Committee Room

The Committee Room is a room suitable for meetings of up to 80 people standing or 45 seated. It can be used in conjunction with the bar area. Access to the Committee Room is via the York Road entrance and is suitable for disabled. Fitted with a Hearing Loop system.

The Main Hall

The main hall has a licence to facilitate up to 200 people standing and 120 seated. There is a stage and access to both the kitchen, Mayors Parlour, Committee Room and the bar. There is disabled access and a hearing loop.
We have a cloakroom and the usual conveniences including those for the disabled                         

Kitchen

There is a kitchen, having access to the Main Hall, Committee Room and Mayors Parlour. The Kitchen has a large gas cooker, fridge/ freezer, microwave, water urn & sink. this room can be accessed from the Committee Room

Bar

There is also a bar area adjacent to the Committee room which can be used for functions in the Main Hall, Committee Room & Mayors Parlour.

Children's Parties

The Committee Room is ideal for children's parties.

The hall has plenty of space for a disco.
